The Big Red Wine Book

Broken Gate’s 2008 Pinot Noir was recently reviewed for The Big Red Wine Book 2010/11.

“This newish label sources grapes from various Australian wine regions – and then offers them at realistic prices. Broken Gate is the top label, Side Gate is the lower-priced label.”

On the 2008 Broken Gate Pinot Noir which received 4 drops for value and a score of 90:

“Pretty spiffy wine. Sweet and sour, velvety and chewy – those characteristics sound like contradictions, but they work in harmony here. Dark cherries and cedarwood, enough taning to keep it firm, but not enough to intrude. There’s the odd, stewy, smoky note, but there is a lot of pleasure to be had here.”
